Create a question map
Describe the proposed Florida or United States activity, the parties' intended roles and the decisions under consideration. Identify legal, tax, banking, currency and documentation questions for the appropriate specialists in the relevant jurisdictions. Do not translate a familiar foreign structure into an American equivalent by name alone. Similar terminology can conceal materially different obligations.
Control the information exchange
Agree what information is necessary, who will receive it and how professional review will occur. Provide translated explanations where useful while preserving the original documents for review. Ask counsel which version controls and how discrepancies should be resolved. Do not collect unnecessary identification or private financial documents through an informal introductory conversation.
Clarify a mistaken assumption
Imagine a Portuguese-speaking participant assumes that contributing land creates the same rights as an arrangement used in another country. The responsible response is to define the contemplated United States transaction and refer the comparison to qualified counsel and tax advisers. If capital participation or investment communications arise, involve securities counsel before proceeding. Educational explanation can prepare better questions; it cannot determine immigration, tax treatment, financing eligibility or investment suitability for a particular person.
